Again another video that's priceless to the less experienced lure angler "Me"👌 I'm yet to use trebles so seeing you deal with Mr Pike helps prepare for when I eventually do so... although I think this has convinced me that I'm gonna leave trebles alone until late in the year. I can easily see myself with less experience panicking when having to deal with a fish potentially being out of the water for too long because it has rolled and tangled line and hooks around itself and the net. It's already happened with single hooked lures and although I have managed to deal with that scenario I think I'm going to focus on getting comfortable with landing and handling the fish I do catch with a single hook by dispensing with a net whenever it is safe for the fish and myself to do so.

I keep coming back to your videos over and over as when times are tough you put the confidence back into me. Things are definitely getting better for me and I haven't blanked for a long time now although it might only have been a wasp or two that saves the session lol. Still working on my techniques and making the right lure choices but I'm enjoying it. Got more confidence with the Pike now also but my best has only been about the same size as the first one in you caught in this video.

hi paul, very enjoyable video, many thanks, i wanted to ask you how many months of the year does the frog work, is it an april-sept lure or is it a shorter window than that? i used a frog for the first time on saturday past, my pal and me were on a loch in the scottish highlands and without any exaggerating we both had 50 plus hits EACH, we landed 4 each with my best one at 14lb, but the amount of aggressive takes and follows were amazing, i fished it slow and left it static and that seemed to trigger a hit, most takes would come in 3-4 ft of weedy water or right in close, it was just amazing sport and we lost a few decent fish as it was'nt all small jacks! any info you can give me on frogs as to how long a season is for them would be very much appreciated, many thanks

Stunning fish congratulations..... Finally landed my first Pike. No monsters like this beauty but three jacks from the canal all within an hour and the longest of which was 40cm 🙈 I was searching for big Perch but they nailed my little 3" crayfish. Thanks for the advice buddy I'm gaining a bit more confidence with each fish.

Matey that’s awesome to hear. Now you’ve found a way to catch them and an area where there are pike so just keep at it. Sounds to me also that maybe the pike are pressured and that could be why they are taking something meant for perch off the bottom. They usually like to chase but if pressured then they can shy off. Keep enjoying it matey!!

Decent route from seathwaite it had a bit of everything. The last parts I filmed which were the on the rocky slopes etc you don’t need to do that part and actually instead the route up to scafell pike is then gravel track. Give it a go mate you can do an easy route from Wassdale which is only 5m in total. The seathwaite route is better in my opinion though and as I say you do need to do the dodgy parts.

Yeah mate really great day for it. If you fancy it pal there’s an easier route from Wasdale but I’d recommend just getting out for some walks and getting some walking and elevation fitness. Average fitness is all you need then pick a clear day to enjoy the views. Can even take the rod with you as some routes have little lakes and rivers! 👍

Cheers Anthony. Yeah we did notice that, it was Facebook paradise up there. Trainers and shirts everywhere. Also noted that it looked a tiny bit easier to do the pike from Wass side. It was only 5 mile there and back and a gravel track all way. Anyway really glad we chose this route as we actually all feel like we did actually conquer a couple of proper peaks. Superb weather made it even better we really did get lucky on our first time.

@@riverpiker Still, a bad day out fishin is still better than sittin on yer arse at home, wishing you'd gone.. 😂 You talked in the vid about the pain we go through, well as it happens I have had 20+ (lost count) consecutive day-session blanks of late.. and I mean not even a jack.. Dunno why, I've even started using a baitboat to drop deads out at range and included chopped up free offerings... I've taken a break from it for 3 weeks now, I need to re-group & get my head back in the game, we have no closed season here so that helps too... All my piking is done on large freshwaters here, my local lake, Lough Gara is 12.5 square kilometres area so plenty of hidey-holes for 'em... 🤨 Patience & persistence is the name of the game though so I'll stick at it ...😖😉 😎👍☘🍺

Yeah mate different ball game out where you are. I’ve had a go once and will come back one day. Yes you need ti have a break sometimes that’s either some time off or maybe a new venue or method just to give you a change. You already know it buddy but it can all change in an instant in fishing. And this wild Irish pike don’t always give themselves up so easy but that adds to the whole game doesn’t it buddy. I wish you luck pal and I’m sure you will be in to a beast sometime soon.

Yeah buddy they are. I love how young pikes markings differ from older pike and also how clear water pike look. Their markings usually stand out much more.

Cheers Marc. Yeah she was a super fish to finish off really happy with that. Fish care is a big thing these days with so many at it and if you are pushing out videos for everyone to see then you need to set an example. That said, I try my best always and theres no extras for the cameras. I’ve noticed over my many years at filming that it’s easy to get carried away with the commentating and filming the fish and then when you watch the clip back it can be absolutely ages before the fish goes back in the water. For me now there’s often loads of time where the fish is left in the net while I faff with cameras then you can just get the fish out quickly and get it back. You can probably see me looking at something and that’s my phone screen so I can see what my GoPro is filming live and that makes it all much quicker too. As for the other RUclipsrs, I hope some of them learn to streamline the time the fish is out of the water. Anyway thanks for the kind words and positive feedback matey much appreciated. ❤️
